Simon Sinek gave a wonderful TED talk on How Great Leaders Inspire Action that explains better that I can how people get the rest of us to do something. Those great leaders move us by talking of “Why”. The why is that deep inside feeling we can’t verbally explain that moves and motivates people to care and believe. The “Why”.
The “why” is what moves us. The “why” is that thing that makes us put a time in our calendar and call our friends to make plans. The “why” gives us a feeling. The “what” doesn’t do much. The “what” can get a paycheck, but the “why” makes us sweat and bleed. The “why” is true motivation. The “why” is what keeps us going when our family questions our plan. The “why” helps us find the way. The way to the future, the way to our fortune, the way to help others. Your “why” opens doors. Never give up your “why”.
“If you hire people just because they can do a job, they’ll work for your money. But if you hire people who believe what you believe, they’ll work for you with blood and sweat and tears.” – Simon Sinek – How Great Leaders Inspire Action
